Zaza Gagua is a prizewinning bass from Georgia with considerable experience in the Nordic countries.

Zaza was born in the Georgian capital Tbilisi and was awarded two degrees from the Tbilisi State University's Faculty of Law. But his love for singing led him away from a legal career and into the vocal arts, which he studied at the Tbilisi State Conservatory including an exchange year at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He finished master degree in May 2019 at the Stockholm Opera accademy in Sweden.

Zaza Gagua made his debut as Oroveso in Bellini's Norma, in a production with the Swedish company Operafabriken that toured Sweden and Denmark. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Stockholm Concert Orchestra. His operatic roles include Sparafucile in Verdi's Rigoletto, Colline in Puccini's La Bohème, Masetto and Commendatore in Mozart's Don Giovanni , Zuniga in Carmen, Tom from Verdis ,, Un ballo in maschera,, and more. He is an experienced lieder singer and has taken the bass solo role in Verdi's Requiem in Stockholm.

In the 2019-20 season, Zaza was a part of the Norwegian Opera in Oslo as a member of the company's Young Artists Program doing roles as Grev Monterone in Rigoletto, Hans Schwarz in Wagner's Die Meistersinger, The Captain in Eugene Onegin, Zuniga in Carmen . After this Zaza sang Sparafucile in Rigoletto - it was his Danish debut with Danish National Opera in 2020.

Zaza has participated in several competitions. He won three singing competitions, the first organised in 2015 by the legendary Georgian baritone Lado Ataneli, which he won. Earlier in the year 2019, he won the 1. Prize in solo singing at the Tbilisi International Competition for musician-performers VII in Georgia, Manhattan International Singing Competition in 2019 silver medal. Zaza was in the final round of the competitions: the Schymberg Award, the Wilhelm Stenhammar Competition, and the Opera Crown Competitions.

In 2022 Zaza singed at the Oslo Opera house in Carmen Zuniga, at the Opera po Skäret Tom from the Un ballo in Maschera from September he was back to Norway with Opera Rogaland, singed Zuniga. In 2023 Zaza singed Angelotti in Denmark with the Danish National Opera.

Later in 2023 in Germany at the Staatsteater Darmstadt Zaza singed Gremin from the opera "Eugene Onegin" and the role Zuniga in at Tbilisi State Opera. He singed Il Re from Verdis Aida and Herzog from Gounoud's Romeo and Juliet at the Immling festival and also he singed in Staatsteater Darmstadt
