Im Portugiesischen bedeutet „encantado“ sowohl „verzaubert“ als auch „in Staunen versetzt“ – in der afrobrasilianischen Kosmologie bezeichnet das Wort zudem geheimnisvolle Wesen, die zwischen Erde, Wasser und Himmel wandern und Landschaften in heilige Orte verwandeln. Von diesen Vorstellungen ausgehend erschafft die international gefeierte Künstlerin Lia Rodrigues eine Choreografie, in der Mensch und Natur untrennbar miteinander verbunden sind.

Elf Tänzer*innen entfalten aus farbenprächtigen Stoffen, Körpern und Bewegungen ein Bildermeer. Landschaften entstehen, lösen sich auf und verwandeln sich vor den Augen des Publikums. Begleitet werden die Tänzer*innen von Liedern und Musik des indigenen Guarani-Volkes, die während der Proteste für den Schutz ihrer angestammten Gebiete in Brasilien aufgenommen wurden. So verbindet Encantado ökologische Fragen mit den Kämpfen indigener Gemeinschaften und entwirft eine Welt, in der alles miteinander in Beziehung steht.

Encantado feiert die Fantasie als Kraft des Wandels und lädt dazu ein, unsere Beziehung zur Natur und zueinander neu zu denken. Das Stück spiegelt so auch Lia Rodrigues’ Haltung wider, künstlerische Arbeit, soziales und ökologisches Engagement miteinander zu verbinden.

In Portuguese “encantado” means both “enchanted” and “amazed” – and in Afro-Brazilian cosmology the word also refers to mysterious creatures that wander between the earth, water and the skies, transforming landscapes into sacred places. Starting from these beliefs, the internationally acclaimed artist Lia Rodrigues creates a choreography in which human beings and nature are inseparably linked.

Eleven dancers use splendidly coloured material, bodies and movements to unleash a torrent of images. Landscapes emerge, dissolve and transform before the eyes of the audience. The dancers are accompanied by songs and music of the indigenous Guarani people that were recorded during protests to protect their ancestral regions in Brazil. In this way Encantado combines ecological issues with the struggles of indigenous communities and outlines a world in which everything exists in relation to everything else.

Encantado celebrates fantasy as a force of change and invites its audience to reconsider our relationship with nature and with each other. In doing so, the piece also reflects Lia Rodrigues’s stance in linking her work as an artist and her engagement with social and ecological causes.
