Ab 19:00 Uhr stimmen wir uns mit einem 15- bis 20-minütigen Warm-up im Foyer Großes Haus auf den Abend ein. Um 19:30 Uhr folgt „Danza Contemporánea de Cuba / Rain Maiden“ im Großen Haus. Im Anschluss feiern wir ab 21:00 Uhr gemeinsam den Abschluss des Abends in der Bar der Kammerspiele.

Die Danza Contemporánea de Cuba blickt auf eine über 50-jährige Geschichte zurück. Gegründet 1959, im Jahr der kubanischen Revolution, kann sie in vielerlei Hinsicht als Abbild des Inselstaates und seiner Menschen gelten.

Inspiriert von Theodor Storms Kunstmärchen Die Regentrude gleicht ihre Arbeit Rain Maiden einem choreografischen Ritual der Erneuerung. Dürre tritt hier nicht nur als Naturphänomen, sondern auch als Metapher für die materielle, emotionale und spirituelle Erschöpfung auf.

Auf der Bühne verkörpern die Tänzer*innen diese Trockenheit: Sie wirken schwer, fragmentiert und ausgezehrt. Demgegenüber erscheint die Regentrude nicht als einzelne Figur, sondern als kollektive weibliche Kraft. Verwurzelt im Ahnenwissen und im Einklang mit afrokubanischen spirituellen Traditionen wird ihre Präsenz lebendig: durch Stimme, Atmung, Rhythmus und das Zusammenkommen der Gemeinschaft. Der Regen erscheint hier nicht als äußeres Wunder, sondern als gemeinsamer Akt von Körpern, die Widerstand leisten, sich erinnern und einander tragen.

So wird der Abend  zu einer poetischen Reflexion über Hoffnung in Zeiten der Krisen – zu einem Aufruf, die Verbindung zwischen Gemeinschaft, Erinnerung und Natur wiederherzustellen.

Danza Contemporánea de Cuba looks back on more than 50 years of history. Founded in 1959, the year of the Cuban revolution, in many respects it can be seen as an image of the island state and its people.

Inspired by Theodor Storm’s fairy tale Die Regentrude, its work Rain Maiden resembles a choreographic ritual of renewal. Here drought appears not only as a natural phenomenon, but as a metaphor for material, emotional and spiritual exhaustion.

On stage the dancers embody this dryness: they appear leaden, fragmented and emaciated. By contrast the rain maiden does not appear as a single character but as a collective feminine force. Rooted in ancestral knowledge and in harmony with Afro-Cuban spiritual traditions, her presence comes alive: through voices, breathing, rhythm and a community coming together. The rain that arrives here does not appear as an external miracle but as the collective act of bodies that resist, remember and support each other.

In this sense, the piece becomes a reflection on the possibility of regeneration in times of crisis — a call to restore the connection between community, memory, and nature.
